PM Modi to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping as tussle continues over India's inclusion into NSG
New Delhi, June 22 (IBNS) Under the cloud of China seeking to block India's inclusion into the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet Xi Jinping, President of the Asian giant, Uzbekistan's Tashkent on Thursday.
Reports said the meeting is likely to take place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) giving Modi an opportunity to persuade China in India's favour.
China has been saying that that the grouping is divided over India's inclusion and that membership is not on the agenda in the plenary session of the 48-member nuclear club, being held in Seoul.
Pointing that India is a non-NPT (non proliferation treaty) nation, which is not supposed to be included in NSG, China has put forth a logic that if its major neighbour is allowed entry, then Pakistan should also be let in.
China leads a group of nations, including Turkey, South Africa and New Zealand, which controls access to nuclear technology.
Pakistan's foreign affairs adviser Sartaj Aziz told lawmakers in Islamabad on Tuesday that the country had "successfully" blocked India's bid.
The US has urged NSG members to support India's membership during the Seoul meeting."
