Thousands stranded following landslides and snowfall in Kashmir
Srinagar, Mar 17(IBNS) Thousands of people have been stranded in the Jammu-Srinagar highway, blocked by landslides following rains and heavy snowfall for the last two days.
Reports said about 2,000 vehicles carrying passengers and goods remained immobile on the closed highway which went under one-foot deep snow and hit the walls of debris from landslides in several stretches, including the Udhampur-Ramban sector.
The valley experienced incessant snowfall on Monday forcing disruption in road and air traffic that cut off the valley from the rest of India.
On Sunday, three persons were killed in landslides.
Train service from Baramulla to Bannihal remained suspended due to the accumulation of snow on tracks while electricity went off in many areas.
However, as the weather started looking up on Tuesday morning, officials hoped to clear the stranded vehicles by the evening.
