Cong-NCP to meet over seat-sharing logjam today
Mumbai, Sep 23 (IBNS): Maharashtras ruling Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will meet in Mumbai on Tuesday to sort out the seat-sharing logjam ahead of the state Assembly polls scheduled next month, reports said.
The NCP gave a notice to its senior partner Congress demanding 50 percent of the total 288 assembly seats.
Hectic consultations were held on Monday in Delhi to discuss the issue. The Congress leaders from the Centre and the state, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, also met at party president Sonia Gandhi’s residence.
Sources said that NCP chief Sharad Pawar is not in favour of any split with the ally but his nephew and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is of opinion to explore new avenues.
Nominations for the Maharashtra assembly elections will close on September 27.
